Abstract

Social vulnerability is a complex and interdisciplinary concept, applicable in a variety of fields, from environmental changes to inequalities based on economic, health or other criteria. However, existing theoretical approaches do not contain a fundamental concept of income-based social vulnerability. For these reasons, we intend to develop the given concept in order to create a theoretical basis for public policies, social assistance programs and social protection measures aimed at reducing this vulnerability and supporting people at risk. The research methods used in this study are: bibliographic documentation, observation, synthesis and interpretation of information. The theoretical importance of research derives from the contribution to the development of knowledge in the field of economic and social sciences. At the same time, from an applicative point of view, through the clear conceptualization of the income-based social vulnerability, the most vulnerable groups will be identified, allowing efficient and targeted targeting of resources to those most in need. The results of the study will lead to increased awareness among the public, politicians and non-governmental organizations about the challenges and risks faced by low-income individuals.
