Abstract
The reduction in global trade in 2020 was smaller than during the global financial crisis of 2008-2009, but the impact of COVID-19 was marked by the heterogeneity of certain goods and trading partners. Globally, trade in services has declined more and the recovery after the lock-down has been slower than in the case of trade in goods. The structure of foreign trade by category of goods has changed in the context of significant disruptions in the international transport sector. Although it is currently unknown which changes will have long-term and short-term effects, the unprecedented heterogeneity of the effects of the pandemic on trade suggests an acute need for adaptation which means the identification of development opportunities but also a high degree of uncertainty accompanied by significant adjustment costs. Based on the latest available statistical information on the foreign trade of Romania on goods and partners and analyzing the economic context developed under the conditions induced by the two important crisis in the last 15 years, the 2008-2009 crisis and COVID-19 pandemic, this section is dedicated to the international trade transactions at global, regional / European and national level. It is necessary to identify directions for action and strategies to reduce risks at both company and government level.
