Abstract

The article is dedicated to the analysis of the structure of employment indicators from gender perspective and their dynamics during the last decade. The national and international statistics show that Moldova is characterized by one of the lowest level of activity and employment rates of women among European countries. In addition, over the last two decades, a rise in the number and proportion of economically inactive people at working ages occurred, which is connected, on the one hand, to an increasing duration of education, and, on the other, to labor migration, whose participants are registered by the statistical authorities as economically inactive population. Compared to men, higher rates of economic inactivity among women are explained by their distraction from the labor market because of the childbirth and family responsibilities.
