Abstract

The concepts of sustainability and information society constitute different topics that are promoted by approach areas with their own vocabulary and different development policies and priorities; the lack of interaction between them will only reinforce both the isolation and stereotypes. If the information society has the advantage of exploiting increasing returns from the distribution and use of knowledge, it is not certain that on the sustainability line the benefits of informational dematerialization are environmentally friendly and/or eco-efficient (rebound effects). We are questioning several approaches to that issue with a purpose rather comprehensible than analytical.
