Implicațiile medicinei reproductive asistate asupra creșterii demografice

Abstract

The research on the impact of assisted reproductive medicine on the demographic situation is particularly relevant in societies with unfavourable characteristics, including the Republic of Moldova, which is exacerbated by low fertility rates, demographic aging, and the growing depopulation phenomenon. The postponement of childbirth and the frequent spread of various sexually transmitted diseases further intensify the issue of infertility. Thus, the application of assisted reproductive medicine is becoming an increasingly present reality, being used both for treating biological infertility and for social reasons (lack of a partner etc.). The article reflects aspects regarding the specifics of applying assisted reproductive medicine in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the difficulties (financial, legal, ethical, psychological) in accessing these technologies. Special attention is given to the analysis of the legal framework in the Republic of Moldova compared to other European countries. Against the backdrop of the population’s poor reproductive health, although the number of live births conceived through assisted reproductive medicine is low, an increase in birth rates can still be facilitated through the implementation of assisted reproductive medicine. In this context, demographic policies play an essential role in supporting infertile couples to benefit from assisted reproductive medicine services.
