Abstract

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is an emerging technology, appeared as a solution to limit harmful emissions released by burning fossil fuels. Supporters say the idea that this process will stop the spread of pollutants in the atmosphere preventing air pollution. One of the proposed methods of CO2 capture and storage is carried out the following form: methane gas produced from offshore platforms is brought by pipeline to refineries. The refinery is isolating hydrogen and carbon dioxide. CO2 is separated by a membrane and sent back to offshore pipeline. Instead of being released into the atmosphere, carbon is stored below sea level, a few kilometers depth.
