Abstract

The fate of economic recovery and development, both in Romania, Republic of Moldova and in Europe never depended much like today, on the evolution of the SME sector. Because, in the current context, SMEs are the most dynamic factor in economic development and social inclusion through their potential for competitiveness and innovation and the ability to create and maintain jobs in society. One of the significant issues in evaluating the potential of economic viability is the correlation between turnover, number of employees and labor productivity. In this context, the paper examines the "health" of the economically active SMEs in Romania, the European Union and the Republic of Moldova upon comparative values for the main indicators characterizing economic potential.
