Item The active ageing potencial in the Republic of Moldova(INCE, 2016) Buciuceanu-Vrabie, MarianaThe actuality of the study consists in estimation of the Active Ageing Index (AAI) for the Republic of Moldova and assessment of the situation of elderly population based on this index. The aim of the paper – to highlight the challenges facing the Republic of Moldova to ensure active and healthy aging of the population aged 55 and over. The calculation of the AAI and its components are based on methodology developed by UNECE, the demographic statistic and results of the national empirical studies on population. The AAI allowed to delimitate the position of Moldova compared to EU countries and to establish social, economic and institutional barriers for active ageing and harnessing the potential of old people in Moldova.Item Dezvoltarea și experiența europeană de implimentare a indicilui de îmbătrinire activă(INCE, 2014) Cusnir, LilianaThe Active Ageing Index (AAI) is a tool to measure the untapped potential of older people for active and healthy ageing across countries. It measures the level to which older people live independent lives, participate in paid employment and social activities as well as their capacity to actively age. The index is constructed from 22 individual indicators that are grouped into four distinct domains. Each domain presents a different aspect of measuring the untapped potential of older people for active and healthy ageing. The results of the AAI are presented in a country ranking by the overall AAI and the domain-specific indices. The ranking of countries might change depending on what are the results for the overall AAI or the domain-specific indices. AAI also offers breakdown of results by gender.Item Reflecții asupra problemei de îmbatrânire a populației în presa scrisă din Republica Moldova(INCE, 2014) Tabac, TatianaThe phenomenon of demographic aging became more discussed in the media last time. This article presents the results of the study of image and problems of elders reflected in the written press. Image of elders is presented only in a unilateral way by the mass media.Item The Active Ageing Index in the Republic of Moldova, 2020(INCE, 2021) Buciuceanu-Vrabie, MarianaIn 2020, the Active Ageing Index (AAI) for the Republic of Moldova scored 28.7 points out of 100, registering a slight increase compared with the first estimates of the Index made in 2016 (27.1 points). However, the general situation of the population improved modestly – over the past five years less than 1/3 of the human potential aged 55+ is enabled and has opportunities to have an active and healthy ageing.Item The well-being of the older people in the Republic of Moldova: determinants and challenges(INCE, 2020) Buciuceanu-Vrabie, MarianaIt is attested at the national level that three-quarters of human capital aged 55 and over in Moldova represent an untapped potential for active aging, which means limited opportunities to get old in good health, to be active economically, to have a safe and secure social life. Meanwhile, more older people are in a group risk with high socio-economic vulnerability. According to national demographic prognoses, by the year 2035, every third person would be over 60. At the regional level, Moldova has the lowest indicators on the quality of life of the older people, on the human capital in older age and on the opportunities to empower this category of the population. The paper focuses to calculate and evaluate some indicators of well-being and social inclusion of the older people in the Republic of Moldova. The challenges which the older people population is facing (poor living conditions, financial and material deprivation, limited access, and quality of health services, restricted physical security, etc.) are highlighted. The analysis is based on the latest available national statistics and empirical data. To emphasize determinants of material wellbeing of the older people the binary logistic regression model had been developed based on primary data of the “Discrimination, abuse and violence against older people in Moldova” (2014, CDR, HelpAge) sociological survey of persons aged 60 and over. The factors, which have a significant impact on the material welfare of the older people, are residence area and age, labour market position, the migrant experience, educational attendance, self-perceived health, age-friendly community perception.
