Item Agricultural development under a changing climate in Ukraine: trends and challenges(INCE, 2023) Prokopenko, KaterynaThe last century was characterized by noticeable climatic changes. The whole world, including Ukraine has been significantly impacted. Such changes are characterized by increased average annual temperature on the planet surface, increased level of the water in the oceans, increased number of natural disasters and cataclysms, such as desertification, landslides, hurricanes, etc. Furthermore, the climate change coincides with the period of increasing food shortages in the world. The aim of the article is to study the dependence of agricultural efficiency on the changes in agro-climatic conditions of production in the long term and the impact of these changes on the cultivation of agricultural crops and their productivity. Research methods are general scientific and special, qualitative and quantitative, theoretical and empirical, comparative analysis. Agriculture is the sector of the Ukrainian economy that is the most vulnerable to fluctuations and climate changes. Given its inertial nature and the dependence on weather conditions, it is essential to make timely and adequate decisions regarding the problems caused by climate changes. Taken the expected increase of the air temperature in the Northern Hemisphere, Ukraine's food security will largely depend on the efficient adaptation to upcoming climate changes. The consequences and risks of the climate change for the food production vary from region to region, however the negative impact of climate trends outweighs the positive one. Thus, the research of the impact of climate change on the efficiency of agro-food production is crucial for the development of policies that would help to adapt to the consequences of these changes.Item The impact of the world food market on the agricultural sector of Ukraine: risks and prospects(INCE, 2022) Prokopenko, KaterynaUkraine, as a player on the world agricultural market, has a number of competitive advantages, including a high level of self-sufficiency in major food products, growth of agricultural production in the long run, gradual increase in agricultural exports and diversification, growth of the share of value added products. In addition, there are potential threats to food security that need to be taken into account when formulating agricultural foreign trade policy. To ensure the balance and sustainability of the domestic food market, in line with the global trends, it is necessary to take into account the factors that determine the sustainability of the global food market, namely the factors of supply and demand and market conditions. The purpose of the article is to study the development process of the domestic agricultural market of Ukraine, taking into account the influence of the world food market and identify risks and prospects for its development under the impact of external factors. Research methods: general scientific and special, qualitative and quantitative, theoretical (descriptive analysis) and empirical (work with official documentation, study of legislative acts). Formed mainly under the impact of the world food market, the structure of agricultural production poses certain threats to both food and environmental security. Reducing livestock production may increase the country's import dependence, and the dominance of the two main groups of crops leads to soil depletion and a gradual decline in yields. This indicates the need to develop a diversified rational agriculture in the long run.Item Ukrainian food security: war risks and post-war opportunities(INCE, 2022) Prokopenko, KaterynaThroughout the period of independence, the agricultural sector of Ukraine provided a sufficiently high level of food security. Military actions on the territory of Ukraine have critically affected the state of food security in Ukraine and rest of the world. It has posed a number of challenges to Ukrainian agricultural sector. In this context, it is necessary to identify the main risks and assess the provision of the main types of agri-food products in the conditions of hostilities and to establish directions and prospects for further sustainable development of the agricultural sector. The aim of the article is to assess the impact of the war on food security in Ukraine and the post-war prospects of the agricultural sector in compliance with the principles of sustainable development. Research methods: general scientific and special, qualitative and quantitative, theoretical and empirical, balance method. The results. The prioritized goals set during the war and the post-war period (in short run) are to ensure food security, employment in the agri-food sector and income of a significant share of population dependent on this sector. The population should be provided with food in sufficient quantities and nomenclature, while the food surplus should be exported, taking into account the current logistics capabilities. However, the post-war development of Ukrainian agricultural sector in the long run should take place in accordance with the concept of sustainable resource-conserving agriculture, which meets the goals of conservation and reproduction of natural resources.
