Articolul oferă o sinteză a standardelor în domeniul Biblioteconomie, informare și studii arhivistice, subliniind importanța și relevanța acestora. Este descris modul în care standardele contribuie la organizarea și gestionarea resurselor informaționale ale bibliotecilor, îmbunătățirea calității serviciilor oferite și dezvoltarea bibliotecilor în general. Sunt analizate standardele și stilurile de prezentare a referințelor bibliografi ce și citarea resurselor de informare și standardele în baza cărora se evaluează bibliotecile și performanța bibliotecarilor.
This article provides an overview of standards in library, information and archival studies, emphasizing their importance and relevance. It describes how standards contribute to organization and management of library information resources, to quality improvement of services off ered and to the development of libraries in general. It also examines standards and styles of presentation of bibliographic references and quoting of information sources, as well as the basic standards to evaluate libraries and librarians' performance. The author also speaks on such topics as access to information and the promotion of culture and education in the community.
