Item Anti-Crisis Measures and Policy Implication for Moldova.(2013) Stratan, Alexandru; Chistruga, MarcelThe article presents how the Moldovan economy evolved in the post crisis period and how the major policy incentives were implemented. An assessment of the major problems of Moldova after the crisis is undertaken. The authors emphasize the importance of elimination of fiscal burden, administrative burden and access to finance. El include aprecierea situaţiei socio-economice curente în linii generale, prognoze referitor la evoluţia economiei mondiale în anii apropiaţi, presupuneri pentru anul 2012 în viziunea expertilor IEFS şi calculări de prognoză pentru anii 2013-2015. În acest studiu calculările de prognoză s-au efectuat utilizând pachetul econometric EWIEVS, verificat şi adaptat la realităţile economiei naţionale.Item Development and side effects of remittances in the CIS countries : the case of Republic of Moldova(European University Institute, 2013) Stratan, Alexandru; Chistruga, Marcel; Clipa, Victoria; Fala, Alexandru; Septelici, VioricaMigration is a longstanding phenomenon. However, the impact of remittances on the countries of origins, makes migration a topic of special interest for many researchers. In the Republic of Moldova remittances have become a much discussed and much analyzed subject, Moldova ranking among the economies with the highest share of remittances in terms of GDP. What is more, remittances, unlike FDI, external trade and other sources of income, seem to have a significant impact on economic growth. Within the present work an attempt has been made to capture the positive and negative spillovers that migrants’ remittances have on a country’s socio-economic development. The study summarises previous findings and data sources related to remittances and their influence on the economy. Moreover, authors investigate the link between remittances and economic growth, investments, inflation, employment, human capital and poverty. The study combines the theoretical background with an analysis of the real trends and fluctuations in the Moldovan economy.Item Economic consequences of remittances? Case of Moldova.(2012) Stratan, Alexandru; Chistruga, MarcelEconomic literature continuously argues about the consequences of remittances and scholars try to capture the effects of migration and remittances on economic growth and development. In the last decades, these phenomena became a proper pattern for the Moldovan economy. High remittances impose the Moldovan authorities to concern on better understanding of the following issues: ways of legalization and securitization of remittances inflows, in the short run, and attracting of remittances in economy and their better utilization, in general. At the same time, the paper will analyze migration and remittances patterns in order to formulate relevant policy recommendations for decisions makers.Item The Macromodel of the Moldovan Economy Medium – Term Forecast for Moldova(Institute of Economic Forecasting, 2012) Stratan, Alexandru; Chistruga, MarcelEstimates of the macroeconomic indicators are carried out with an econometric model which tries to estimate the medium-term evolution of the Moldovan economy. The forecast takes into account the economic influence of the main economic partners of the Republic of Moldova and the internal evolutions of the monetary aggregate M2, the exchange rate, the interest credit rate and others. This is the final yearly forecast of the Moldovan macroeconomic indicators and this version of the macromodel incorporates previous experience and a new block – Public Finance.Item Remittances in the Republic of Moldova: Lost opportunities(2011) Stratan, Alexandru; Chistruga, MarcelThe article covers the problem of the relationship between remittances and economic growth as well as the use of remittances for productive investment in order to contribute to long-run development. Also, there are given some stylized facts of remittances in the Republic of Moldova and their impact over the national economy. Because of its business and investment climate, of its financial system and macroeconomic policies that were implemented, Moldova has lost almost all opportunities to benefit from remittances.Item What drives high cost of finance in Moldova?(Academica Brâncuşi, 2012) Stratan, Alexandru; Chistruga, MarcelWhy there are high costs to finance in Republic of Moldova? Is it a problem for business environment? These are the questions discussed in this paper. Following the well know Growth Diagnostics approach by Hausmann, Rodrik and Velasco, authors assess the barriers and impediments to access to finance in Republic of Moldova. Guided by international and national statistics we found evidence of poor intermediation, poor institutions, high level of inflation, and high collateral as major causes of high cost of financial resources in Republic of Moldova. At the end of the study authors give policy recommendations identifying other related fields to be addressed.
