Item Identification of the potential to reduce greenhouse gases in the Romania economy(INCE, ASEM, 2024) Piciu, GabrielaThis paper aims to analyze the economic sectors and the ways in which circular models can be introduced, for decarbonization and increasing economic competitiveness in Romania. The purpose of this study is to identify the strategies, the effective circular measures that can be implemented and to evaluate the potential of their implementation, given that the Romanian economy is still going through a structural transformation. These strategies aim at more efficient productions and uses, extending the lifetime of the product and component parts, and optimal use of materials. The decarbonization of the country to achieve the "Net Zero" objective, which means achieving a balance between the amount of emissions produced and those removed from the atmosphere, can be achieved through the transition to a circular economy and will result in global economic benefits, through the circular interventions implemented, through the application of a regenerative production, the elimination of waste and the valorization of waste. The long-term sustainability of the economy, and the ability to provide products and services, can be achieved through drastic changes in the way we produce and consume to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.Item The role of digitalization in accelerating the transition towards a circular economy(INCE, 2023) Piciu, GabrielaIn this article, it is shown that the lack of a proper digitization in the economy leads to the disruption of the transformation of the value chains, the change of the structure and the functioning of the markets, components necessary for the implementation of the circular model. Good digitization facilitates, through its technologies, the transition to the circular economy through the collection, management and processing of data, the creation of platforms, all of which influence consumer behavior and the way relationships are developed, maintained and advanced, thus increasing value retention and mitigating some of the externalities environmental. The article also analyzes the main economic sectors and sub-sectors in which circular economy measures can be implemented with the help of digitization, which support policies not only by identifying the focal points that can bring the most benefits, but also by reporting them to the broader perspectives of pledged contributions such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and other benchmarks such as national carbon budgets.Item The need to adopt the circular economy as a sustainable and innovative economic model(INCE, 2022) Piciu, GabrielaThe impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on companies has highlighted the need to transform traditional supply chain models, their vulnerabilities, especially those that are highly dependent on raw materials or finished products in areas severely affected by the pandemic. The purpose of the article is to assess the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the policies adopted to combat it, with a focus on the global supply chain and international trade. In this context, the pressure to which the elements of global supply chains and demand have been subjected has triggered a cross-border economic disaster due to their interconnection. Thus, this article proposes the adoption of the circular economy as a sustainable and innovative economic model, which can be used to decouple economic growth from resource consumption, waste management and create added value.
